Director General DG CONNECT confirms age 12 appropriate threshold online

In an event organized by weekly newspaper European Voice on 19 September (“Can we make the internet a safer place for children?”), Robert Madelin, Director General of the European Commission's DG CONNECT said he believed there is a broad consensus amongst society and academics to create special rules to protect children aged 12 and under on the internet.

EU working group meets on packaging of unhealthy products

On 19 September, the European Parliament Environment, Public Health and Food Safety (ENVI) Committee held a Health Working Group workshop on the “Packaging of unhealthy products”. While the event focused chiefly on the packaging of tobacco products. Alcohol and food packaging were also briefly debated.

Belgian industry launches food marketing initiative

On Tuesday 11 September at a public event in Brussels, The Belgian Advertisers Association (UBA), COMEOS and FEVIA (Belgian food associations), officially launched the Belgian Pledge.
