EU Commission gives green light to Google/DoubleClick deal

Date: 13/03/2008

European Union competition regulators have given an unconditional green light to Google's $3.1 billion (€2.02bn; £1.55bn) acquisition of online advertising firm DoubleClick.

Antitrust watchdogs, led by competition commissioner Neelie Kroes, decided the deal was unlikely to have harmful effects on consumers. The US Federal Trade Commission came to a similar conclusion late last year.

Google ceo Eric Schmidt forecast the online search titan would now be able to "dramatically improve the effectiveness, measurability and performance of digital media for publishers, advertisers and agencies, while improving the relevance of advertising for users".
