How does advertising affect food choice?
Date: 02/10/2007
The impact of advertising on children's food choices and diet is a matter of considerable debate in light of increasing obesity rates, particularly amongst children, and calls from some quarters for restrictions to advertising.
In order to try and shed some light on the issue, please find below a review of the existing evidence conducted by the World Federation of Advertisers. The review takes into account all the available research in the field, including recent reviews of the evidence by Gerard Hastings, Ofcom - the UK independent broadcast regulator, the US Institute of Medicine (IOM) and more recent research conducted in the US.
