On 31st March, WFA held its inaugral President's Awards as part of the Global Advertiser Week in Istanbul. The purpose of the awards was to recognise excellence in global industry leadership by WFA's national advertiser association network.
The shortlisted nominations were chosen by WFA's Executive Committee, with the final three winners selected by outgoing WFA President, Bernhard Glock (Media Leadership Company).
The winners:
Union des Annonceurs (France) for their thesis on advertising and economic growth
UDA commissioned a 750-page doctorate thesis which demonstrates a correlation between advertising investment & economic growth. The thesis proves that increased ad spend has a positive effect on GDP by comparing media investment across major markets.
Indian Society of Advertisers (India) for legislative recognition of self-regulatory codes
ISA successfully persuaded the Indian government to reinforce the advertising self-regulatory Code with a legal backstop. Membership of the self-regulatory body increased by 36%. Compliance with the code increased from 79% to 94%.
Asociacion Nacional de Anunciantes (Peru) for "ethical traffic lights" for program content
ANDA Peru´s Ethics Committee designed a visual "traffic light" evaluation system to grade TV programs according to their content. Marketers can now be sure their brands will not be associated will low quality, unethical content. Their work received widespread industry support from marketers, media planners & media owners and was applauded by Government.
