Having played the role of an extra for the last decade, search marketing is inching towards centre-stage, underpinning all other media in a campaign. What's more, advertisers are starting to realise is creative potential too, using search as a gateway to rich branded content.
When planned well, pay-per-click search can be unbelievably effective, so who can blame advertisers for being drawn to it, particularly in these cash-strapped times? What's more, the love affair between brands and search will continue to blossom. This year, eMarketer predicts that search in the US will be worth $12.3bn, while online display ads will account for under $5bn. Online display will also continue to grow, albeit more slowly.
