Event highlight: WFA/ABA co-host Global Advertiser Conference in Sao Paulo

On Wednesday 11th March 2009 WFA co-hosted, along with the Associacao Brasileira de Anunciantes (ABA), the Global Advertiser Conference in Sao Paulo. The event, entitled "Future Proofing", brought together over 450 delegates from the global marketer community encompassing senior WFA and ABA corporate members, as well as key figures from the global ad industry.

The event marked ABA's 50th anniversary and featured highly insightful and strategic discussions across the following themes:

Session 1 - Building brands in new frontiers
Simon Clift (Chief Marketing Officer, Unilever), Alan Walker (Director, Contagious magazine) and Charlie Crowe (Chief Executive Officer, Csquared) on the brands that are taking refreshingly different approaches to the traditional model of brand building and the contemporary challenges the biggest global marketers face in this sphere.

Session 2 - Evolving Accountability
Rafal Szysz (General Director, ProMarka / ex Regional Media Manager EMEA, Avon), Robert Dreblow (Marketing Communications Director, WFA), Jonathon Carson (President International, Nielsen Online) and Charlie Crowe (Chief Executive Officer, Csquared) on the work that the global industry is doing regarding improving accountability measures and the solutions that might address the challenges posed by current accountability standards.

Session 3 - Marriage of necessity (Marketing & Public Affairs)
Chris Burggraeve (Chief Marketing Officer, Anheuser-Busch Inbev), Mary Catherine Toker (VP Government Relations, General Mills Inc.), Stephan Loerke (Managing Director, WFA) and Ricardo Bastos (Executive VP, Johnson & Johnson Brazil) on the need for marketing and public affairs to engage strategically with each other, leverage their frequently siloed expertise and focus brand energy on building trust with consumers.

Session 4 - Achieving growth in a downturn
Bernhard Glock (VP Global Media Purchases, Procter & Gamble), Johan Jervoe (Corporate VP Global Marketing, McDonald's), Maurice Levy (Chief Executive Officer, Publicis Groupe) and Robert Liodice (President and Chief Executive Officer, ANA) on the learnings and strategies that global marketers can apply to maintain and build tangible growth, despite current complex economic challenges.
