Date: 15/02/2009
On 11 February 2009 WFA and the China Association of National Advertisers (CANA) co-hosted a meeting to discuss the development of advertising standards and the launch of a potential food and non-alcoholic beverage advertising initiative in China.
The meeting was attended by global and regional marketers from a variety of sectors and focused on two main areas:
1. Setting up cross-industry advertising self-regulation in order to ensure ethical advertising standards in China.
2. The local implications for the food industry of global discussions on overweight and obesity.
WFA members can log in and download the full report below (including links to presentations).
In parallel, on 12 February CANA organized and facilitated a meeting between WFA and An Jian, Vice President of the Legal Affairs Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC). This committee will play a lead role in the revision of the Chinese Advertising Law. Discussions focused on the role and technicalities of advertising self-regulation. Mr An showed a strong understanding of how advertising self-regulation works as well as the value it can provide. WFA committed to offering its expertise, through CANA, regarding any further questions he may have.
