Forecasts predict 2008 Olympics will boost TV adspend to highest ever levels

ZenithOptimedia has announced the publication of the new edition of Advertising Expenditure Forecasts. This edition covers 71 markets, providing data to 2009. Data is split by medium for each market: newspapers, magazines, TV, radio, outdoor, cinema and internet are all included where the information is available. Also included are background economic data such as GDP growth and consumer price inflation rates, which help put the advertising expenditure figures into context.

Results summary:

- Ad spending worldwide will near $486 billion in 2008 for a 6.7% gain
- ZenithOptimedia predicts the Olympic Games will help lift television's share of the global ad market to a record 38.2% in 2008
- Online video and local search will drive 30% growth in internet ad expenditure this year, nine times faster than the rest of the ad market
- Between 2006 and 2009 internet adspend will grow 85% and raise its market share from 6.1% to 9.5%
- US downgraded to 2.5% growth in 2007 from 3.3% after credit squeeze and continued slump in housing market
- Between now and 2010, according to the forecast, the 10 fastest-growing ad markets will be Kazakhstan in the pole position followed by Belarus, Serbia, Egypt, Russia, Moldova, Indonesia, the United Arab Emirates, Ukraine and what the agency refers to as "Pan Arab."
