Bharat Patel re-elected as Chairman of Indian Society of Advertisers

Date: 06/10/2008

Bharat Patel, Chairman of Procter & Gamble Hygiene and Health Care Ltd., was re-elected Chairman of the Indian Society of Advertisers (ISA) at the Annual General Meeting held on September 26, 2008 in Mumbai.

Bharat informed the members of the new focus and initiatives to make ISA a catalyst in enhancing value and knowledge of commercial communication for advertisers. He said, "ISA through its Secretariat and Executive Committee will be focused on achieving three critical objectives in the coming years. These are: to make advertising more efficient, more effective, and to bring out the value and positive role of advertising."

Bharat identified three distinct workstreams for the ISA to focus on:

1. Working towards the withdrawal of Maharashtra Stamp Duty on advertising contracts to ensure that advertising commercial terms and conditions are determined by the parties concerned;

2. Positioning ISA at the forefront of industry thought leadership by launching a series of innovative workshops and seminars on subjects such as social media and communities, agency remuneration and relationships, and other hot topics;

3. Continuing to strongly support self-regulation in advertising so that consumers see advertising as "decent and credible".

Bharat explained, "We will also roll out with the help of other relevant industry associations in India some excellent communication material, which the World Federation of Advertisers (WFA) has prepared to project the positive role advertising, plays in social and economic development."

Bharat has been a longstanding supporter of WFA activities and we look forward to continuing our fruitful collaborations with him and the ISA secretariat in the future.
