FTC releases report on Marketing Food to Children and Adolescents

Date: 30/07/2008

The US Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has just released its long-awaited report on Marketing Food to Children and Adolescents: A Review of Industry Expenditures, Activities, and Self-Regulation. The study is the result of an extensive analysis of 2006 expenditures and activities by 44 major companies, which the FTC had subpoenaed in July 2007. The initiative had first been proposed by Senator Tom Harkin in 2005. Overall, the report welcomes the efforts made by the industry since 2005 and calls for broadening and strengthening initiatives such as the US Pledge programme.

WFA has communicated to members a summary of the key recommendations the report makes for global advertisers. This is available for download below (members only) as well as the full FTC report.
