Thomas Holzapfel, Global Category Leader Marketing Procurement, Deutsche Telekom has been announced as the new Chairman of the WFA Global Communications Procurement Action Group (Global COMPAG), a peer-to-peer group of over 400 global and regional marketing procurement directors and category managers from the WFA's multi-national corporate and national advertiser association membership. Global COMPAG was launched in 2005 with the objective of helping sourcing members' effectiveness in relation to marketing communications procurement through knowledge exchange and industry leadership.

Thomas is based in Bonn, Germany and prior to joining Deutsche Telekom, held positions with Ebay and Mars. He will take over the role of Chair for Global COMPAG from Jean-Luc Charlier who has chaired the group for three years during, which time the geographical breadth of coverage and the number of participants has increased exponentially.

Global COMPAG's objectives fall within four key areas:
1. Helping members define the internal positioning of marketing procurement vs. marketing/procurement - savings, stakeholder management, people development;
2. Redefining the image of marketing procurement within the industry – the contribution of sourcing to driving business value;
3. Agency relationship lifecycle – covering selection, management, remuneration, performance reviews;
4. Focus on sourcing categories beyond the core – upskilling sourcing coverage to go beyond advertising and media to include broader BTL categories.

The next meeting of this group will take place on 19th September in New York. For more information, contact Steve Lightfoot [email protected].
