A team from the Philippines has won the top prize at the second 2011 Cannes Lions Young Marketers. A team representing the local association and consisting of Justine Ferrer and Angeline Go from Del Monte won gold for their take on designing a product where 100% of proceeds go to charity.

To represent the Philippines, the pair had to overcome competition from over a dozen teams in a tough, three-day PANA Brand Camp before battling it out with another 16 teams in Cannes from around the world. Cannes Lions Young Marketers must be below 30 years of age.

Philippine advertising Creatives, including Russell Molina and Tey San Diego of Seven A.D., Brandie Tan of BBDO Guerrero, Cey Enriquez, Mela Advincula, and Niņo Gupana of Leo Burnett and Jos Ortega of JWT gave team PANA intensive training for the two weeks before they left.

A PANA representative at Cannes, Margot Torres, VP for Marketing, McDonald's Philippines said, “I am so proud of the Team PANA Philippines Young Marketers. For two years in a row, PANA Brand Camp brings home a medal from Cannes Lions. This means that the training given by the best minds from the Philippine advertising industry are worthy of the Cannes Festival.” Bayan Telecommunications' Dave Buenviaje and Mei Marasigan pocketed the silver in 2010.

In separate news, the Philippine Association of National Advertisers (PANA) organised a Forum on October 20th, entitled “Children & the Media: Responsible Communication, Regulation and Self-regulation”, in partnership with the local Ad Standards Council (KBP) and the Association of Accredited Advertising Agencies (4A's). Participants came from the broadcast, print and digital media sectors, advertisers sector, advertising agencies, academia, and other stakeholders in the advertising and marketing communications industries.

The objective of the forum was to help orient media practitioners as well as those who participate in communicating brand messages about laws, rules and regulations on media and communication relating to the protection of the child.

The event was concluded with statements from private companies, organizations and stakeholders committing to responsible communication to children and a signing of a group pledge.
